Communication Builds Confidence in Children

Every parent wants to see their child walk into a classroom, a playground, or a family gathering with confidence. But confidence doesn’t always come from being outgoing or loud—it comes from being understood.

The Link Between Communication and Confidence

When children can clearly express what they want, need, or feel, they’re more likely to participate in new experiences. They join classroom discussions, ask questions, and make friends. On the other hand, when a child struggles to communicate, they may feel left out or misunderstood. That frustration often leads to withdrawal or behavior challenges.

How Therapy Supports Growth

Speech therapy is more than practicing sounds—it’s about building the foundation for self-expression. A therapist might help a child learn to organize their thoughts into sentences, expand vocabulary, or build social communication skills. Over time, this gives children tools to share their ideas and connect with others.

Imagine a child who once avoided answering questions in class because of unclear speech. After therapy, they not only answer with confidence but volunteer to read aloud. That growth changes how they see themselves—and how others see them, too.

Confidence Beyond the Classroom

Strong communication doesn’t just impact school. It carries into every part of life: making friends on the playground, joining sports teams, participating in community activities, and building leadership skills as they grow.

Why Early Support Matters

The earlier communication challenges are addressed, the sooner children can experience the confidence that comes with progress. Early therapy prevents small struggles from becoming lifelong barriers.

It’s not just therapy—it’s your transformation.

I (Sheridan) used to be that visionary business owner with all the balls in the air. I had my master's degree in speech therapy and created a six-figure consulting business in that field. But I didn’t stop there. I created another six-figure business as a health coach, and then one as a business coach for good measure. But the whole time I was trading time for money. I worked a zillion hours a week. Don’t believe me? I have five kids, and in addition to the work stuff, I was an available and committed mother to my children – doing the laundry, ferrying them to activities, and on and on...

By outward measures, I looked successful, but on the inside, I was mentally and physically exhausted. I had hit a ceiling in my income and every incremental increase required more from me. I was in constant striving mode, trying to push myself to constantly do more. Until it all fell apart (even typing that makes me quake remembering). I had a major health crisis that caused me to pull the plug on 95% of my business. Almost everything came to a full stop.

Which was the best gift I ever received.

You see, working hard and learning more skills is not enough. Heart, vision and best intentions are not enough. It’s embarrassing to admit, but I didn’t know what I was doing even though it looked like I did.
