Finding Your Voice: How Speech Therapy Builds Confidence at Any Age

At SDC Therapy Inc., we believe that your voice is more than just the words you say—it’s your connection to the world around you. Your voice carries your ideas, your personality, and your confidence. When communication feels difficult, it doesn’t just affect your speech—it affects every part of your life, from school and work to relationships and self-esteem.

One of the most common misconceptions about speech therapy is that it’s only for young children learning their first sounds. While it’s true that therapy is life-changing for children, it’s equally powerful for teens navigating new social challenges and adults wanting to strengthen their communication in both personal and professional spaces. Confidence has no age limit—and neither does growth.

Speech therapy is about more than drills and exercises. It’s about equipping individuals with tools that help them express themselves clearly and confidently. For children, that might mean speaking up in the classroom without fear. For teens, it might be gaining the courage to express themselves in social circles. And for adults, it might be presenting confidently at work, asking for what they need, or simply enjoying conversations with friends and family without hesitation.

The transformation we see is incredible. People who once avoided speaking out begin to discover that their voice matters. Step by step, their confidence grows—not just in speech, but in how they carry themselves in the world.

When you invest in your communication, you invest in yourself. And the return on that investment is immeasurable: more opportunities, stronger relationships, and the freedom to live authentically. No matter your age, it’s never too late to find your voice. And at SDC Therapy Inc., we’re here to help you unlock it.

It’s not just therapy—it’s your transformation.

I (Sheridan) used to be that visionary business owner with all the balls in the air. I had my master's degree in speech therapy and created a six-figure consulting business in that field. But I didn’t stop there. I created another six-figure business as a health coach, and then one as a business coach for good measure. But the whole time I was trading time for money. I worked a zillion hours a week. Don’t believe me? I have five kids, and in addition to the work stuff, I was an available and committed mother to my children – doing the laundry, ferrying them to activities, and on and on...

By outward measures, I looked successful, but on the inside, I was mentally and physically exhausted. I had hit a ceiling in my income and every incremental increase required more from me. I was in constant striving mode, trying to push myself to constantly do more. Until it all fell apart (even typing that makes me quake remembering). I had a major health crisis that caused me to pull the plug on 95% of my business. Almost everything came to a full stop.

Which was the best gift I ever received.

You see, working hard and learning more skills is not enough. Heart, vision and best intentions are not enough. It’s embarrassing to admit, but I didn’t know what I was doing even though it looked like I did.
